Early Intervention Services
Provided at No Cost!

We would like to take a moment of your time to provide information regarding the Importance of Early Intervention. Many parents and providers take a “Wait and See” approach when it comes to the development of their children. However, there is no down side to referring a child for early intervention. Each child that is referred is evaluated and services are provided only if a child meets the criteria of a 50% delay in one area of 25% delay in two areas of development. If a child does not qualify, the parents can rest assured knowing their child is on track developmentally. If the child does qualify, he/she will then receive services in order to meet his or her needs.

Early intervention services can change a child’s developmental path and improve outcomes for children, families, and communities.

  • Early Intervention Services are available to all children from birth to three that qualify in the state of North Dakota. The connections in a baby’s brain are most adaptable in the first three years of life. Over time, these connections become harder to change. The earlier services begin the more likely a child is to reach his or her best potential.

  • Early intervention programming helps children build a stronger foundation for maintaining healthy relationships, confidence, curiosity, self-control and communication, and it ultimately paves the way for a healthier childhood and adulthood.

  • Services may include consultations by speech therapy, physical therapy, occupational therapy and other types of services based on the needs of the child and family.

  • Early Intervention can have a significant impact on a child’s ability to learn new skills and increase their success in school and life.

  • Services include the parents and reduce parental stress by giving parents strategies to help meet their child’s developmental needs from an early age and throughout their lives.

  • The benefit of Early Intervention to society include reducing economic burden through a decreased need for special education services once the child reaches school age.
